Ingredients
- • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
- • 9 tbsp unsalted butter - melted and cooled to ½ cup
- • ¾ cup brown sugar
- • ¼ cup granulated sugar
- • 1 large egg, room temperature
- • 1 tsp vanilla extract
- • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- • 1 tsp baking soda
- • ½ tsp baking powder
- • ½ tsp salt
- • 1 tsp cinnamon
- • 1 to 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
Instructions
- Step 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan. I also put a piece of parchment paper across the middle to help pull it out of the pan after baking.
- Step 2. Brown butter in a small pan until it turns golden and has a nutty; cool slightly in freezer for 5-10 minutes. You want it warm, not hot, when mixing with the other ingredients!
- Step 3. In a large bowl, mash bananas until mostly smooth.
- Step 4. Pour in brown butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla. Whisk until incorporated and glossy.
- Step 5. Fold in flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until just combined.
- Step 6. Mix in 1 cup of chocolate chips. Save the rest for topping.
- Step 7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
- Step 8. Bake for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean with moist crumbs (not wet batter). You can loosely cover with foil halfway through baking if it’s starting to look overly brown.
- Step 9. Cool 15 minutes in the pan, then turn out, slice, and enjoy! 🌞
Notes
• If you want to make this recipe now but don't have brown bananas yet, no worries! To quickly brown and sweeten bananas for banana bread, place unpeeled bananas on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake at 300°F-350°F for 15 to 40 minutes (depending on the oven and initial ripeness) until the skins are completely black. For a faster trick, pierce unpeeled bananas a few times with a fork then microwave on high in 30-second intervals until they are very soft to the touch. • Feel free to add walnuts, if desired - I recommend 3/4-1 cup.
